Santiago is the largest airport in Chile. SCL: Santiago, Chile
Official name is Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport. The
airport is also known as Pudahuel Airport.
The airport is the hub for many Chilean and international airlines including Chile's largest international airline, LAN Airlines LAN was previously known as LanChile. A subsidiarya airline is LANExpress, which is the largest domestic airline in Chile. LAN Airlines bought Ladeco, formerly a major Chilian Airline, in the mid 1990s.
Santiago's International Airport uses one terminal for International flights
and one for Domestic flights.
The International terminal services about 20-25 gates. LAN Airlines
has two VIP Lounges that are only opened for premium or higher frequent flyer
passengers and for first/business class passengers.
Admirals Club of
American Airlines and
SkyTeam
alliance also offer VIP services in their lounges.
The Domestic terminal has 10-15 gates and one VIP Lounge, the Pacific Club
Lounge.
Construction is underway on more gates, a hotel connected to the Santiago Airport, a recreational park, and baggage area enhancements. Expected completion of the additons is in 2010.
